Our story

Local roots. Real experience.

Before Rootiva had a name, we were the people friends called when someone needed a cédula, permanent residence, a bank account, or a doctor's appointment in Spanish. Years of quietly handling migration paperwork, sworn translations, and the small emergencies that no checklist prepares you for - always for people who had been trusted into our care.

We turned that experience into a real practice. Today we run end-to-end residence packages, Spanish programs for adults, and digital products for the expats who prefer to move at their own pace - but still want a trusted team behind them.

Every client works with a real human, in your time zone, who knows your file by name - not a ticket number. That is the standard we learned before Rootiva existed, and it is the standard we still hold today.

What we value

Calm work. Clear answers. Real warmth.

Clarity over jargon

We simplify a process that can be overwhelming, and take the time to walk you through every step so that you feel confident.

Belonging, not just paperwork

Residence is the start. We care more about whether you have a Spanish teacher, a doctor and a favorite café six months in.

Rooted in Uruguay

We're not a global firm with a Uruguay desk. Montevideo is home — and that means our recommendations are first-hand.

Why Uruguay

Stable. Civil. Quietly extraordinary.

  • Known as "the Switzerland of South America" for its stable banking system and financial reliability.
  • One of South America's safest and most stable democracies.
  • Territorial tax system: foreign-source income is generally tax-exempt, with up to 10 years of exemption available to new residents.
  • Private healthcare from about $70/month, with Montevideo ranked #1 for quality of life in Latin America since 2006.
  • A credible Plan B residence in a first-world environment - no investment required.
  • Small enough to feel personal. Modern enough to feel like home.
  • Free, secular, compulsory primary education for over 150 years - and free public university too.
