The residence roadmap
How Uruguayan residence works.
This is the full government process from first appointment to cédula. Timeline: 8-14 months for permanent residence; 3-6 months for MERCOSUR nationals.
The Strategy Session is a private consultation that gives you a personalized roadmap; Residence Management and Concierge guide you through every step below.
01
Choose your track
Permanent residency or MERCOSUR track. We identify the right path based on nationality and income.
02
Gather documents abroad
Birth certificate, criminal record, proof of income - apostilled in your home country before you travel.
03
Enter Uruguay & open file
Arrive as a tourist and file your application at Migraciones to receive your constancia.
04
Complete local paperwork
Health certificate, proof of address, sworn income statement, and certified translations in Uruguay.
05
Wait for approval
Permanent residency typically takes 8-14 months; MERCOSUR is faster. You can stay legally while it processes.
